First Team match reports
Satruday 25th April 2009 - Stony Stratford 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

Saturday 18th April 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 3 Sun Postal Sports 1

The last home game of the season saw Watford based Sun Postal visit the Rec. in a must win game for Peters if they were to finish in the top 6.
The hosts started at a blistering pace cutting through Postals defence at will culminating in possibly their goal of the season as Danny O'Farrell hit a deep cross to the far post, Dean Robb volleyed back across the keeper to make it 1-0. A brilliant finish from the in form midfielder. The next goal came when a cross in from the right was met by Martin Wells running backwards into the six yard box. The ensuing scramble saw a visting defender use his hand to stop a certain goal and Dean Robb despatched the penalty. A sending off was expected but only a yellow was shown.
All the time Bradwell were piling on the pressure Postal did have some controlled possession in midfield and if it wasn't for inspired goalkeeping from Kieran Lampard in the Peters goal they would have got back into the game. However it was Bradwell who scored again as Ed Wheatley hit a brilliant crossfield ball to Wells who in turn crossed perfectly for Lea Coulter to glance home a header as he ATTACKED THE NEAR POST.
The second half saw chances at both ends with Bradwell having the lions share but unable to add to their lead. Sun Postal did get a consolatiuon goal from a penalty that Lampard very nearly saved. A convincing win, but not without a few scares, takes Bradwell into their last game of the season against Stony hoping for a top four finish if results go their way and of course they win.

Team: Lampard, O'Farrell D, Castagnetti, (Smith) Mooney, Mulholland, (Ralph), Townsend, Wells (Tite), Wheatley, Robb, Coulter, Cole Subs not used: Kennard, Patel

Tuesday 14th April 2009 - Bucklingham Athletic 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

Peters last midweek game saw them travel the short distance to Buckingham who are fighting for survival at the foot of the table and sure to prove tough opposition despite their league position.
The game started well for Bradwell when in the third minute Will Smith followed in from close range to put the visitors ahead. After that Bradwell looked comfortable without hitting top gear on a very difficult surface and kept the home side pinned in their own half for long periods just having to cope with hopeful long balls and few set pieces. Bradwell tried to play their passing game but the pitch proved awkward and Buckingham to their credit battled and fought for every loose ball.
The second half saw more adventure from both sides as Athletic pushed forward and left gaps for peters to exploit. Castagnetti was causing problems with his pinpoint delivery from corners and free-kicks and hit a 25 yd drive that the keeper saved brilliantly. Townsend went close with a volley and Ed Wheatley hit a screamer with his left foot that had goal written all over it if he had actually touched the ball.
Buckingham however were the next to score when a speculative effort came off the bar only to find Rob Mooney following in and he headed home expertly. Unfortunately he is one of the Bradwell centre halves. Eventually Peters got the winner they deserved when another Castagnetti corner was met by Dean Robb who powered his header into the roof of the net.
Buckingham didn't give up and there were a few half chances to deal with before Peters took the three points.

Team : Lampard, Mooney, Castagnetti, Wheatley, Mullholland, Townsend, Cole, Robb, O'Farrell M ( Coulter) Tite ( Wells) Smith ( O'Farrell D )
Subs not used Ralph, Kennard

Saturday 11th April 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 2 Hoddesdon 1

A game that could have an outcome on the top few positions in the league saw high flying Hoddesdon visit the Rec.
Bradwell had Micky O'Farrell in their line up for the first time in 3 months and Dean Robb was fit again after a four game lay-off.
The first half was a stalemate, neither side looking threatening although Hoddesden did try to get their passing game going but had no cutting edge against a solid Bradwell defence marshalled well by Mooney and Mulholland.
Second half saw the home side come out with much more desire and determination to get the win they needed and within minutes Lea Coulter challenged the visitors keeper bravely allowing Micky O'Farrell to tap in from close range. Soon after Dave Cole broke down the right to deliver a brilliant low cross to again find O'Farrell at the far post to make it 2-0. Bradwell remained in control for the rest of the half until Hoddesdon converted a dubiously awarded penalty to see a torrid last few minutes where Peters held on for a much deserved win, Coulter even missing a golden chance to make the score more convincing.
Credit to Hoddesdon for coming to play football and at times succeeding in that (and admitting their penalty wasn't deserved)

Team: Lampard, Cole, Castagnetti, Mooney, Mulholland, Wheatley, Robb, (Chouhan) Tite, (Townsend) O'Farrell M, (Achaempong) Smith. Subs not used Wells,
KennardSaturday 28th March 2009 - New bradwell St Peter 0 Cranfiled United 2

A local derby with bragging rights at stake and a much awaited fixture saw Cranfield visit the Rec.
Both teams started at a high tempo and showed their intentions right from the start and Lea Coulter nearly opened the scoring bringing a close range save from Andy Gibbs in the visitors goal.
Alot of the play was congested in midfield without many chances being created but when they were it was Cranfield who looked more dangerous without actually making Andy Partlow in the Bradwell goal make a save. Danny O 'Farrell made one last ditch tackle to deny a Cranfield forward and another header whistled over the Peters bar. Martin Wells and Dave Cole went close for Bradwell and the half time whistle came without a goal.
Second half saw the ascendancy swing towards the home side but it was Cranfield who opened the scoring when Christian Lester bundled Danny O 'Farrell off the ball and slotted past the advancing Partlow. Bradwell tried relentlessly to get an equaliser putting the pressure on but without either the guile or fortune to equalise. With minutes to Cranfield played a long ball out of defence, Stuart Reynolds found space wide on the right and calmly rounded Partlow who had rushed recklessly out of goal to seal a victory and revenge for a home defeat by Peters in November.
Team: Partlow, O'Farrell, Castagnetti, Mooney (Capt) Mulholland, Kalek (Smith), Wheatley, Townsend (Chouhan), Wells (Tite), Coulter, Cole

Managers comments:
A harsh lesson to learn, although if Lamps was playing in goal things may have been slightly different, we again didnt take our chances and overall on the day weren't good enough.
Cranfield were solid and organised but had that bit of quality that mattered when it counted with either their final pass or finish. Unfortunately we didn't have that and it showed. It was a local derby and it was always going to be a battle but the game was won by quality and composure not effort and work rate.
We didn't pass the ball well enough or hold it up long enough to really make an impact and as hard as it is to take we were beaten by a team who took two of their 5 or 6 chances when we didn't take any of our 7 or 8. Parts didn't actually have a save to make where as Gibbo did make 2 or 3 very good ones but that matters for nothing if we lose. All credit to Cranfield for coming and trying to play rather than just stop us but to be honest that isn't hard at the moment as we struggle to find any rhythm.
Its not easy without some of big players missing but that shouldn't stop the ones in the team playing to their potential and sadly Saturday too many of us were off our game but we get off our arses, battle on, and try to put it right

Tuesday 24th March 2009 - New Bradwel St Peter 0 Crawley Green 0

A home game and a chance to close the gap on the leaders and stay in the top 6 for Bradwell proved to be another frustrating outing.
Once again Peters lack of firepower resulted in points lost in an exciting but disappointing draw. The first half saw chances at both ends with Peters going close over and over again without taking the lead. It was Crawley Green however that had the best chance to score when a penalty was brilliantly saved by man of the match Kieran Lampard. The second half was more of the same as Bradwell had 3 chances to put the game to rest in the first ten minutes but couldn't convert. Mulholland had the ball in the net from a well directed header only for the Referee to disallow it for a foul on a visiting defender.
Crawley Green didn't stop pressing though and Lampard made a close range save from Robbie O'Dell in the last few minutes to win Peters a point in a game that they should again have taken all three.

Team: Lampard, O'Farrell, Castagnetti, Mooney, Mulholland, Kalek, Wheatley, Chouhan (Townsend) Wells (Downard), Coulter, Cole Subs not used: Purcell, Kennard

Managers comments:
Again I cannot praise enough the effort and endeavour of my team. They work tirelessly and give ever thing they have but once again it wasn't quite enough on the day.
We are suffering from a lack of goals and that is no surprise as at the moment we dint have a fit forward to put out. The boys who are playing up front are getting plenty of chances without that little bit of luck they need. I'm sure it will come and they will get the reward their hard work deserves.
On the injury front, Micky O'Farrell could be back in training soon and play some part before the end of the season but Joey Achaempong looks to be out for a few more weeks, but with Dean Robb hopefully fit for todays game.
In an already chaotic season another new twist was Micky Downard resigning as Reserve team Manager. I would like to thank him for all he has done for the club to date and wish him well in the future. John Dyer will take temporary charge in his absence.
It has been a very unsettling season, to say the least, with continual changes to both Management and playing staff. All credit then to the team for their performances and I remain very proud of their efforts to date. However we still have 21 points to play for and our focus must be on getting as many of those as we can to finish strongly and set up a serious challenge in 09/10. I believe the players at the club have the ability to do better than they are at present and expect them to show what I hope they have learnt from this season in the next one, wherever or whoever they play for

Saturday 21st March 2009 - Sport Lond E Benfica 1  New Bradwell St Peter 2

An away game at Benfica that could have proved difficult despite the home teams League position gave Peters three much needed points.
Again the visitors started strongly controlling the game not allowing the skillful Benfica side any time on the ball and protecting Kieran Lampard back in the Bradwell goal after a long term injury. John Mulholland and Rob Mooney were strong in the centre of the defence, with Ed Wheatley breaking things down and using ball well in midfield. Chances were being created and when a Benfica defender lost possession on the edge of his own area Dave Cole punished him by slotting the ball home from close range. Bradwell continued to pile on the pressure and Lea Coulter had the chance to make it two from a great Wells cross but had two shots blocked on the line. Wells himself saw a long range volley shave the crossbar and it was all one way traffic apart from a free kick dealt with comfortably by Lampard.
Again Peters had dominated a first half but had not got the goals to show for it.
Same story as previous weeks as the home side came back into the game as Bradwell stopped playing and lost their composure getting frustrated at their lack of quality possession. Inevitably they conceded from a well taken free kick from the edge of the area. From then on it was anyones game as both sides had chances although Benficas were all from long range as Peters defence stood firm. A re-shuffle in personnel saw midfielder Dean Robb sent up front and within minutes he had snatched the winner deep into injury time, giving Bradwell a very late but deserved winner.

Team: Lampard, Kalek, Castagnetti, Mooney (Capt), Mulholland, Chouhan K (Achaempopng) (Kennard) , Wheatley, Robb, Wells, Coulter, Cole.

Managers comments:
At last a bit of luck! Yes we scored in injury time but on our first half display when we should have been 3 or 4 up it was no more than we deserved. however the lack of goals and the inability to put sides away when were on top is a problem. It may have something to do with both our recognised forwards Titey and Micky being injured (and Joey going on as sub and coming straight off) but when Lea doesn't score we simply don't get enough goals from elsewhere. Great to welcome Kieran back, luckily so as Andy Partlow had to drop out on the morning of the game, and he looked superb giving us in my opinion two of the best young keepers in MK along with Tom Kennard who is also considering a career in professional golf.
We need to learn from these games and improve our ability to read the game tactically and when we aren't at our best make sure we don't let other sides take advantage. If we aren't passing the ball well for spells we have to play a percentage game and go route one a bit more, against our principals maybe but necessary at times.
Next week we entertain Cranfield when hopefully our new changing rooms will be open, the disabled facilities ready for Brendan and Stokesy.

Saturday 07th March 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 2 Royston Town 5

A very disappointing day at the rec with St Peter's losing 5.2 to Royston Town. They day started in the worse possible way with Keeper Shaun Abson dropping out due to Car trouble with Reserve team manager Mike Downard donning the gloves to face the League Leaders. Bradwell started cautiously defending the slope against the prolific Craig Hammond & Luke Robins and the first fifteen minutes were fairly even with both teams creating and missing chances. In the 19th Minute Peter's fell behind when two Royston players broke with the ball being squared for Craig Hammond to slide home. This is how it remained until half-time. Bradwell started the 2nd half optimistically and have several chances to level before another mistake let Craig Hammond in to Score his 2nd. Bradwell continued to push and were unlucky on numerous occasions before we were killed off by own doing again when Substitute Ricky Young scoring number 3. Bradwell finally managed to score in the 73rd Minute when Dean Robb converted a penalty after he got bought down in the area. Bradwell seemed to raise their game again and could have made it 3.2 bar a good save by the visiting keeper. It was certainly not to be Bradwell's day as in the 80th Minute Hammond completed his hatrick then added his fourth a minute later. Peter's then got a late consolation with Dean Robb scoring his 2nd. The injuries to key players Bradwell have suffered in the last Month seem to have knocked the players confidence and players are making silly individual errors that they would not have made a couple of weeks ago. With Promotion seeming a distant dream now it is time for the players to dust their selves down and get back to playing and defending as a unit and living up to the reputations they have created for themselves.

Team - Downard,Patel,Castagnetti,Mooney,Mulholland,Townsend (Lee), Wells (Simm),Kalek (Acheampong),Robb,Coulter,Cole subs not used, Gorrie, Eglesfield

Saturday 28th February 2009 - Harpenden Town 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

A trip to Harpenden after two defeats was always going to be difficult one for a New Bradwell side that had seen their promotion chances blown away, and that was exactly what it turned out to be.
Harpenden started quickly causing problems for the Bradwell defence on a very uneven surface and with both regular centre backs, Mulholland and Mooney, out injured, Sean Abson had to be at his best in goal. At the other end of the pitch Lea Coulter made his return form suspension and was trying hard to make an impact. The score remained at 0-0 until half way throught the second period when a low curling corner from Castagnetti was turned in cleverly at the near post by Coulter but the lead only lasted a few minutes when good build up play saw Harpenden level from close range. Both sides had chances to win the game but it was Bradwell who were fortunate when a clumsy challenge inside the area by Kalek was overlooked by the Referee to leave the teams to share the points.
Team: Abson, Cole, Patel,Kalek,Simm, Townsend,Wells (Wheatley)(Mulholland), Robb, Acheampong (O'Farrell D), Coulter, Castagnetti . Sub not used: Kennard

Managers comments:
A draw in our game against Harpenden might have been disappointing 2 weeks ago but after our recent spate of injuries, suspensions and results, a point was welcome. The players were quick to praise, along with Glyn and myself, the performance of Dave Cole who because of injuries to Moons and Fritz played at centre-back and despite one strange tackle that involved a spot of kickboxing he was a revelation.
Harpenden are an improving side and I'm sure they will continue their progress up the League so I was pleased with the effort and endeavour of the players although the quality we have shown at times was lacking. The coaching staff have worked very hard on fitness and application but the fact remains that if we are to mount a serious challenge for promotion this season, or now next, we must be more consistent and set higher standards in the basics of the game, namely our passing and movement. Although it was a difficult surface Saturday we gave away possession far too often and that is something we need to put right.
On the injury front an update is, Tom, Kieran, Micky and Titey are still long term injured, Fritz and Rob Mooney are now on the list , Ed tried a comeback but sadly had to come off again.
7 players out but Lea's suspension is over and he was straight back to his best with another brilliant display. I have never seen him work so hard as he has the last few months and he continues to top the goalscoring list.
Although we have had problems I have nothing but admiration for the teams efforts to keep in touch with the leaders but unfortunately it was an 'ask' too much and although we have nothing to prove to ourselves we would like to show the Division that we can be a very good side and will keep performing to our very best in every game we play.

Tuesday 24th February 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 0 Kings Langley 4

A top of the table clash brought Kings Langley to the Rec for a must win game for the Peters. A game that was to see their slim promotion hopes come crashing to the ground.
The first half started slowly with both sides cancelling each other out in a midfield battle that was to see some heavy tackles and frequent stoppages for free-kicks and injuries. The game seemed to be drifting to a half time stalemate when Langley broke the deadlock after a scramble and an easy tap in to go in one up.
With everything to play for second half the hopes were that Bradwell would come out fighting but it all went wrong within five minutes when, after two defensive lapses, the visitors went three up. Game over as a result and soon after as a contest as Kings Langley took complete control. Scoring again from a penalty before full time it was no more than they deserved as although they were facing a much depleted Bradwell side they were worth every bit of their victory on the night.
Team: Abson, Simm, Kalek, Mooney (Patel), Mulholland, Townsend, Wells, Robb, Achaempong, Cole, Castagnetti
Subs not used: Kennard, Egelsfield

Managers comments:
A reality check as although behind the dug out stood 5 of 6 players out through injury and suspension, we learnt that although we are becoming a good side we aren't quite as ready as a Kings Langley team who have behind them probably 3 or 4 years playing together and building a squad that in my opinion will not look out of place in the Prem.
We however have had 2 or 3 months as a side with me and Glyn as Managers, and we must remember that is all the time we have had together as players and coaches and in all reality to expect to be a promotion winning team was a hope at best.
What I have learnt along with the fact that we aren't quite good enough yet is that the players I have in the squad deserve all our efforts in trying to make them a winning team as they give everything when they pull on the shirt and although I was, to say the least, disappointed after the game I still back these individuals to come back stronger and better next season.

Saturday 21st February 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 1 Amersham 2

Amersham were the visitors to the Rec. bringing together two of the form teams in the Div 1 title race.
Bradwell started strongly taking control of possession and territory and passed the ball around well on a surface that was drying out proving difficult to play on. Stand in keeper Craig Townsend was protected well by a solid defensive performance and Dean Robb and Ed Wheatley took control of the midfield until the latter went off injured after only 30 minutes. Wells and Castagnetti looked threatening on both flanks with Cole and Tite's movement up front causing Amershams defence problems. The dominance paid off when a brilliantly whipped in corner from Castagnetti was forced home at the near post by Wells.
Bradwell took this lead into the break satisfied with the display but disappointed with just a one goal lead. Something that would prove costly in the second half.
Amersham started the second period with more resolve but still didnt look like threatening Bradwell's superiority until Rob Mooney challenged the visitors centre forward who went down easily to win a dubious penalty, duly dispatched by the same player.
From then on it was an even contest as both teams had chances to score, Mulholland heading over from close range and Simm deflected a shot over the Bradwell crossbar. As the home team pressed for the win Amersham broke clear and scored what turned out to be the winning goal a few minutes from time.
A cruel defeat for New Bradwell which puts a major dent in their promotion aspirations but a gutsy performance considering the unfortunate injuries before and during the game.
Team: Townsend, Kalek, Patel (Egelsfield), Mooney, Mulholland, Wheatley (Simm), Wells, Robb, Tite (Achempong), Cole, Castagnetti Sub not used: Kennard

Managers comments:
The report sums it up. A performance good enough to win the game first half but in the second we didnt take advantage of our dominance. That wasn't altogether surprising considering the ridiculous run of injuries we have suffered. It may sound like an excuse but the boys deserve the facts to be pointed out. Our 3 first choice keepers were all out injured then the stand in keeper Carl Simm dislocates his finger in the warm up! Nobby and Titey both played their first game for months, and thanks to them both for putting themselves at risk of further injury for the team. Then to lose Ed, Greg and Giggsy during the game what realistic chance did they stand of showing what a talented and committed group they are. All teams suffer the same but I have never experienced it to this degree.
However whatever happens this season regarding League position one thing is assured that these players have a great future in football.

Saturday 31st January 2009 - Winslow United 1 New Bradwell St Peter 4

This re-arranged fixture brought together 3rd place New Bradwell against 7th place Winslow in an important game for both sides if they wanted to stay in contention at the top of the table.
Winslow started strongly with a succession of corners and long throws putting the Bradwell defence under pressure and on a heavy pitch and with a strong wind, they seemed to be the best tactics. However the visitors weathered the early storm to gain control in midfield and start to play some good football considering the conditions and put Winslow on the back foot.
Neither side were managing to create too many clear cut chances until Lea Coulter chased a long ball behind the home defence and took advantage of some indecision from keeper and centre half to slide the ball home. Lee White had the ball in the net after a break from Dave Cole who looked sure to score until he squared for his team mate who had just crept offside. The visitors held their one goal advantage looking organised and confident, a lead which they took into the break thanks to goalkeeper Sean Abson who made one imporatant save when he was called into action.
Right from the opening minutes of the second half Winslow made their intentions clear as they pushed Bradwell back and scored an early goal from a well taken corner. Again though Coulter proved his move up front from midfield was paying off as within seconds of the restart he beat the offside trap to finish brilliantly with a dipping shot over the advancing home keeper. That goal probably won the match as from that moment Bradwell took complete control and opened Winslow up time after time with some direct and confident football, sometimes overplaying on the muddy surface, but showing a willingness to try to adapt their game to the conditions.
A third goal looked ineveitable and it came with a speculative shot from outside the box from Cole, another change in position for him playing up front, which took a slight deflection and looped over the helpless keeper. Substitute Ed Wheatley rounded off a superb team effort when he made a run from midfield, took a pass in his stride and cooly slotted the ball home. The last few minutes were stop start as the Winslow team lost their discipline and started to kick out and blame the referee for their poor performance. Only one thing to blame, a team in Bradwell who wanted it more and played better on the day.

Team: Abson, O'Farrell D (Simm) Mooney, Mulholland, Patel, Wells, Townsend, Robb, White (Castagnetti), Coulter (Wheatley), Cole Sub not used: Green J

Saturday 24th January 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 3 Bedford 0

Another convincing League victory and another serious injury to one of our players seems to be the recurring theme this season.
Bedford were the visitors, the last team to take three points from Bradwell, so a difficult game was in prospect and thats what it proved in a first half where the both teams took the game to each other in an end to end exciting half of football.
Micky O'Farrell opened the scoring from close range after a flowing move and Lea Coulter added the second after some brilliant close control and an emphatic finish. Craig Townsend came close when he hit the bar with a powerful long range drive and Lee White came close with another shot from distance. The half ended on a sour note however as O'Farrell slipped on the wet surface trying to make a tackle and dislocated his shoulder ending his involvement in the match and probably seeing him miss the next two months of the season.
The second half saw Bradwell take control from the whistle and they started to play the high tempo attacking football that has become their trademark. A high work rate along with some great movement from the front two caused Bedford no end of problems although the third goal came from sub Adam Castagnetti's curling free kick that left the oppositon keeper stranded.
Three more points sees the team up into third place with two massive games against Winslow and Kings Langley to come over the next two weeks.

Team: Abson, O'Farrell D, Mooney (capt), Mulholland, Patel (Castagnetti), Cole (Wheatley), Robb, Townsend, White, O'Farrell Wells) , Coulter

Saturday 17th January 2009 - Arlesey Ath 0 New Bradwell St Peter 3

Back in League action New Bradwell travelled to the Chateau Roux stadium, the home of Arlesey Athletic.
Bradwell took control of this game from the early stages looking comfortable on the ball and playing some high tempo attacking football without converting the numerous chances they made.
Lee White and Dave Cole were a constant threat on both flanks and Lea Coulter was working hard to break down a five man defence. Eventually Coulter opened the scoring when White put in another dangerous cross. It was Bradwells top scorer who increased their lead when Cole broke clear and squared the ball for a comfortable finish from Coulter. When the hosts did threaten direct from a corner John Mulholland headed powerfully off the line.
After the break it was more of the same as Arlesey were pushed back and time and time again their brilliant keeper Terry Lock saved what looked like certain goals denying Coulter, Mulholland, and O'Farrell. Craig Townsend did beat the keeper only to see his header cannon off the post but the same player did score Bradwells third when he smashed home a 20 yd volley to round off a convincing win moving Bradwell into 4th place in the table.
Team: Abson, O'Farrell D, Patel, Mooney (Simm), Mulholland, Townsend, Cole (Wells), Robb (Wheatley), O'Farrell M, Coulter, White

Wednesday 14th January 2009 - Kings Langley 2 New Bradwell St Peter 0

The quarter final of the Div 1 Cup saw a tough away tie at second place Kings Langley played at Hemel Hempstead FC.
The first half was evely contested with both sides cancelling each other out with good defensive performances and no real clear cut chances being created although Lea Coulter had a 20 yd drive tipped round the post by the home keeper.
The second half was a different story with Kings Langley taking control and scoring two goals in the first ten minutes putting themselves firmly in the drving seat. Bradwell tried in vain to fight back but never really got going and the hosts could have scored more as they repeatedly broke on the counter attack.

Team: Abson, O'Farrell D (Green), Egelsfield, Mooney, Mulholland, Townsend, Robb, White (Davis), O'Farrell M, Coulter, Castagnetti Sub (not used) Downard

Saturday 27th December 2009 - New Bradwell St Peter 4 Hatfield 2

Hatfield Town, in 3rd place in Division 1, were the visitors to the Rec. for a top of the table clash that saw a game with pretty much everything for the 'massive' and noisy crowd of 81.
Our visitors showed why they were riding high in the League as they started strongly and pinned Bradwell back creating enough chances to have taken the lead before, against the run of play, Greg Tite forced the ball home at the far post to give us a 1-0 lead. The last 20 minutes of the first half was all ours as we started to play the football that had got us to 5th in the league.
Graig Townsend and Lea Coulter got to grips with Hatfields aggressive midfield and Greg Tite was a constant threat up front.
Just before half time however Hatfield claimed a penalty when a free kick was given just outside the box that they felt was inside.
The Hatfield bench let their feelings be known to the Referee which resulted in Manager Trevor Lloyd being sent to the stands for the fourth time this season.
The second half again saw our visitors start strongly and we had to defend well, which we did, with debutant Kieran Lampard in goal having a superb game. In a repeat of the first half we broke away and scored again with a trademark Adam Castagnetti bullet header from 12 yards.
Hatfield weren't going to lay down and die as they came back at us and scored two goals in quick succession to level the scores.
This only served to inspire Bradwell as the game flowed end to end with both teams looking to win the game. Danny O' Farrell broke from full back down the right hand side and his cross floated over the opposition keeper to send the crowd wild with celebration to take the lead. The excitement wasn't over as Hatfield pushed forward for the equaliser we could have scored on numerous occasions until Adam Castagnetti ran through the visitors defence to slot the ball home to secure the win and a valuable three points.

Team: Lampard, O'Farrell D, Patel, Mooney, Mulholland, Townsend, Cole (Robb), Coulter (Wheatley), O'Farrell M (Wells), Tite, Castagnetti. Subs not used; White, Egelsfield

Saturday 20th December 2009 - Bedford Town Res 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

Another relatively local derby saw us travel to Bedford Town who sat one position above us in the League.
A scrappy first half where neither side got a meaningful shot on target saw possession shaded by Bedford whose lively wide players were causing problems on both wings. Some inspired defending by skipper Rob Mooney and Danny O' Farrell saw us go into the break level.
The second half saw Jamie Green who was carrying an injury from the first go off being replaced by Dean Robb, and in a reshuffle Greg Tite came on for Tom Egelsfield who had battled hard under constant pressure.
We looked more purposeful and came more into the game but went behind in the 57th minute when a low cross from the right was struck home from close range by an unmarked Nathaniel Peacock (thats a player not a rare bird). Despite this set back we pushed forward for an equaliser and forced centre half Anthony Richens into pulling Greg Tite back when through on goal resulting in a straight red card. Again this inspired us and we got the goal we needed when Mick O' Farrell drove in a low shot across the keeper making it 1-1.
We went close again when Micky nearly converted a Dave Cole cross but it was Bedford who nearly won the game in the dying seconds if not for a point blank save from stand-in keeper Craig Townsend.

Team: Townsend, Patel, Egelsfield (Tite) Mooney, O'Farrell D, Green J (Robb), Cole, White, O'Farrell M, Coulter, Castagnetti

Saturday 13th December 2008 - Ampthill Town 1 New Bradwell St Peter 3

An away game at Ampthill, always a tough fixture because of the amount of Milton Keynes based players on show, saw Bradwell get back to winning ways in convincing style.
Going into the game without both recognised centre-backs Bradwell had to reshuffle the pack and brought in Reserve team Manager Mick Downard to cover for the missing John Mulholland and played a rarely used back three. Thanks to some gutsy performances it turned out to be the perfect formation as Ampthill with players missing themselves played one up front.
The first fifteen minutes were all the home side's as they passed the ball well and put the visitors under pressure. Gradually, once again, Bradwell started to take control of the game and after a shot well saved Micky O'Farrell was following in to smash the ball home.
1-0 at half time and probably just deserved as Bradwell had the better chances with Lee White, Ed Wheatley and Rob Mooney all going close from long range and Lee White whipping in 3 or 4 dangerous crosses.
Second half saw Bradwell storm into a 2-0 lead after Lee White was brought down by the keeper and lash home the penalty himself. Ampthill saw a glimmer of recovery when they scored against the run of play with a brilliant individual goal but that was soon dashed when Lea Coulter, having a quiet game by his standards, made a well timed run into the box to score from close range to wrap up the win. The goal was down to a sheer will to win as he had made 2 or 3 similar runs without being played in.
The three points came at some cost when Tom Kennard went down at an Ampthill forwards feet to make a great save but dislocated his shoulder for the second time in a year in the same fixture. Craig Townsend put the gloves on for the last 15 minutes but didn't have a shot to save as his defenders protected him with outstanding performances.

Tuesday 02nd December 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 1 Winslow United 1

Winslow were the visitors to the Rec. on a cold wet Tuesday night when 3 points were vital to both sides if they wanted to stay in contention with the League leaders.
Winslow started strongly putting Bradwell under pressure with a series of long throws and corners but resolute defending from Mulholland and Quill protected Kennard in goal. Gradually Bradwell got their game together with Cole and Davis threatening on the flanks and Coulter working hard to open up the visitors defence. In the 27th minute Mick O Farrell scored on his return from injury and Bradwell looked in control keeping Winslows only real threat, forward Chris Hill, quiet.
From another long throw Quill was unfortunate to win his header but see it loop over Kennard and in at the far post.
Second half the hosts pushed Winslow back and had chances to seal a victory with Coulter, Castagnetti and O'Farrell all going close. It wasn't until the last ten minutes that roles were reversed and if it wasn't for two brilliant saves from Kennard Winslow would have undeservedly gone home with 3 points.

Saturday 29th November 2008 - Bedford 3 New Bradwell St Peter 1

A visit to McMullen Pk to play Bedford saw New Bradwell lose in the league for the first time since Septmeber.
After losing in the Challenge Cup midweek a win was needed to restore confidence but a very motivated and direct Bedford stormed into an early lead and took control of the game. In truth the 3-0 scoreline at half-time didn't flatter them at all as if it wasn't for some great goalkeeping from Tom Kennard and no little luck it could have been more.
The second half saw the visitors gain some sort of foothold in the game until they were reduced to 10 men when Ed Wheatley received his second yellow card. After this and against all logic Bradwell forced Bedford back and were the better side for the remaining half hour without getting the goal they needed to give them any chance of rescuing the match until injury time when sub. Craig Townsend lashed the ball home from close range.
Too little too late and the hosts hung on for a much deserved win.

Tuesday 25th November 2008 - Chalfont St Peter 4 New Bradwell St Peter 0

We were brought crashing down to earth after a long unbeaten run in the Challenge Cup by Premier side Chalfont St. Peter
A nightmare start saw us concede two goals in the first ten minutes which drained our confidence and made it an uphill task to get anything from the game. In truth although we didn't concede again until near half time, two goals in quick succession again, the scoreline didn't flatter our hosts as we were given a harsh lesson in what is needed to play in the Division above.
Second half saw a totally different display from us as we gave as good as we got and while not scoring we created chances and got behind an otherwise very solid defence time after time.
Lea Coulter and Ed Wheatley were a match for them in midfield and Dave Cole was causing problems with his pace and movement.
The facts are that goals change games and we will never know how we would have done if we hadn't had such a poor start. We were also missing important players in Micky, Brendan and without the still suspended Titey, cup-tied Giggs and injured Gary D. With those players in the squad I truly believe we will give a good account of ourselves against Premier opposition especially if we play games of that nature more often.
The scoreline doesn't bother me as much as the gap in the speed of thought and movement of Chalfont, but that gap can be closed by working hard in training and hard in games to put into action the advice and encouragement from the coaching staff and what the players learnt themselves in a tough game.
We were beaten by a team performance, not individual brilliance and that proves we can get where we want to with the same work ethic and desire to improve.

Saturday 22nd November 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 1 Harpenden Town 1

If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it.
Harpenden were our visitors and their run of recent good form saw them up to 9th place in the table. A good match up and a tough game in prospect but after this draw they must have used up all their good luck in one game.
The first half saw us start well but go behind to a goal against the run of play but after which Harpenden played some neat passing football in midfield and cause Bradwell problems without getting the goals their play deserved. We again scored when we had been under pressure but when it came it was worth waiting for as Micky O Farrell drove in a low left footed shot from just inside the area. We went in at half time disappointed with our display but knowing we were still very much in the game.
After an honest and blunt exchange in the dressing room we came out for the second half fired up and determined to put things right. That we did as our display was as good as anything we had shown in recent weeks and we piled on the pressure crating chance after chance to put the game beyond our opponents reach.
In the end we didnt take our chances but the encouraging thing was the amount of chances created and the quality of our passing and delivery into the box.
Our defending was strong and great individual performances from Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney Ed Wheatley and Micky O Farrell gave us every chance of taking all three points. Lea Coulter again worked himself to a standstill in search of the winner. The only time he did have to stop was when he got booked for the 8th time this season!
We win as a team and lose as one too so no-one can be singled out for not winning us the game but the fact remains that we have had the opportunity to turn losses into draws and draws into wins against Kings Langley, Hoddesdon and now Harpenden and those points could cost us at the end of the season. But as the League official who presented the boys with the team of the month award for October pointed out we had scored something like 26 goals in five or six games during that period so we have to keep believing in ourselves and the goals will come when we need them.
We go into Tuesdays game against Chalfont confident but below full strength without Micky and Craig who both picked up injuries and possibly Brendan through work commitments showing we need to keep a squad of at least 16-18 players to see us stay in contention.
Wednesday 19th November 2008 - Arlesey Ath 1 New Bradwell St Peter 2

The League cup saw us travelling to Arlsley, another side in the lower reaches of the League table, but in Cup competitions that doesn't mean anything and we expected a tough game. That was exactly what we got as although the home side were cautious at first, playing 5 at the back, after we went 1-0 up the result of short corner move and a close range finish from Lea Coulter, they changed formation and became more adventurous.
Never quite in top gear we still pushed Arsley back and if not for two or three oustanding saves from an inspired opposition keeper we would have gone in at half time 3 or 4 up.
The second half proved a stern test for us as Arlsley showed they are no pushovers and went in search of an equaliser. 3 times in quick succession they got the wrong side of our back four and if not for some brilliant goalkeeping from Tom Kennard we would have gone behind. Eventually our work rate and ever improving quality got us back on top and it was our turn to pile on the pressure. Both Mick O Farrell and Lea Coulter could have scored a couple each but again the Arlsley keeper kept them in it. There was nothing he could do however when Lea went on another threatening run at the home defence. He was pushed wide but cut in from the right, beat two more defenders and fooled the keeper by shooting low to the near post instead of crossing.
It was no more than we deserved as we took control of the last twenty minutes or so with a real desire showing how much we wanted to win. Again not our best showing this season but our work rate was outstanding, Rob Mooney, Lea Coulter and Gary Davis having outstanding games. Again Craig Townsend , John Mulholland and Micky O Farrell showed we have a strong physical prescence when we need it. A debut for young centre back Rob Hatcher proved he can play at this level and a return to the side as a sub. for Danny O Farrell showed the we now have strength in depth we have in our squad, a criticism some 'experts' levelled at us last season.
Winning is a habit and we have developed it, winning by quality or in this case sheer endeavour and belief in ourselves. We're not a great side yet but make no mistake we're good.

Saturday 15th November 2008 - Sun Postal Sports 1 New Bradwell St Peter 2

A trip down the M1 to Watford to play lowly Sun Postal for what was expected to be a comfortable victory turned out to be anything but that.
We started nervously looking uncomfortable with an enforced change of formation but that can be no excuse for giving away an early goal when Tom Kennards clearance was charged down and tapped in for Postal to take what was probably a deserved lead. After that we clawed our way back into the game and started to apply some pressure to the opposition defence without ever looking like the team that had taken London Colney apart in midweek.
Eventually after a good build up Dave Cole got behind Sun Postals defence to strike home an angled shot to bring us level and then against the run of play deep into the second half Brendan Quill headed home from close range to put us 2-1 up. Late in the game Lee White and Will Smith had good chances to put us out of sight but consistent with our performance couldn't finish.
There were some positives to take from the game, another good display at the centre of defence from Brendan and Fritz, some tireless tackling and hard work from Craig Townsend and Dave Cole and strong leadership at full-back from captain Rob Mooney.
Overall though this was probably our worst showing of the season lacking quality and purpose, but a good sign of a strong team is to win when playing badly and we certainly did that. However if we are to push for a top four spot we have to perform with more quality as better teams wont let us off the hook so lightly.

Tuesday 11th November 2008 - New Bradwell  St Peter 5 London Colney 0

What appeared on paper to be a tricky fixture ended up in a comfortable 6th successive victory.

A slow start from Bradwell saw a fairly even affair for the first 20 minutes with neither side looking threatening and very little quality football. Over enthusiasm caused Bradwell to try and force passes that weren't there and try things that weren't on but slowly the players settled into a good rhythm.

Following good work in midfield a ball was pushed into the left channel with Micky 'top of the mornin' to ya' O'Farrell on hand to coolly slot home....I know I couldn't believe it either!
This seemed to give a new confidence to the whole team, after all if the Irishman could actually score (without relying on a defender to make the telling touch) then it was going to be our night.

The defence were doing a good job of stopping any efforts on Tom's goal with the "old man" and "German beanpole" more than handling the experienced Danslow. It has to be mentioned that even Adam Castagnetti managed to control his moaning keeping it down to only 25 minutes moaning in the first half. To complete the set Mooney also had a fine performance, it's even rumored that he didn't stumble over his words in the pre match huddle!

A bit more huffing and puffing from both teams before the half time whistle came. During the interval Gary Davis entertained the "crowd" with his spectacular shooting from all around the park..who would have thought that he could get a ball in a hedge from so many different places.

The second half started with a bit more purpose from Bradwell and with Colney looking a little lethargic and demotivated. This was to get even worse soon due to some "amazing" vision from Ed Wheatley. Now some may say that he couldn't have meant his pass to dribble past the two centre backs but I like to think he put disguise on it. Anyhow Lee White gratefully accepted the gift, stepped round the keeper and slotted home number two.

This seemed to really put the Colney heads down and Bradwell started to play some spells of decent football. Eventually Castagnetti stopped moaning long enough to punt the ball as far as he could from the half way line. This seemed to be enough to fool the defence and the onrushing keeper who watched it bounce over his head and to the feet of O'Farrell who had an empty net (fortunately for us) to tuck the ball into.

There was no coming back from this and shortly after Coulter headed home from a corner. Fortunately he got there ahead of Fritz as Adie would still be looking for the ball miles behind the goal if hadn't. Obviously the manager felt that Coulter was being a bit greedy by notching again this season so promptly subbed him and Coley.

Gary Davis replaced Cole and soon managed to make his mark on the game when the ball fell to him in the box and somehow he managed to put his half time horror show out of his mind and pass the ball into the net for the 5th. Mind you I don't think he's ever had a problem putting things out of his mind.

Colney never had an attempt on our goal and the closest they came was a corner that Tom tried to catch a ball but didn't...again. I'm sure this wont be the last time he attempts to ruin something precious to the manager....a clean sheet.
Fortunately Brendan letting the ball slip under his foot couldn't do that either and there was even time for Lee White to take the "Stinker" award away form him by endangering passing aircraft with a right foot shot.

An all round good performance and keeping us right up there in the league.

Saturday 08th November 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 3 Aylesbury Vale Res 0

Meaning no disrespect to Aylesbury Vale potentially this was an easy game for us and the question was could we still play at the same level we have been doing in previous weeks or do just enough to win.
In the first half we were poor and although a few chances were created and in spells we played a bit of football, overall we didn't play well but this was still enough to dominate possession and open up the opposition defence time and time again without scoring. Rob mooney saw one long range effort go just wide, Lee White and Lea Coulter had shots cleared off the line and the Aylesbury keeper made a few decent saves.
Half time 0-0
Second half we played with much more purpose and precision. Our passing was better, quicker and more imaginative and this saw us take total control of the game and although the goals didn't come until later in the half we looked much more like the team that had gone 9 games unbeaten.
The deadlock was broken when Micky O' Farrell scored from close range after good build up play, a goal he deserved as he again led the line with superb technique backed up with straight forward hard work. Our second goal was a cool finish by Gary Davis after he beat the offside trap to go 30 yds unchallenged and slip it past the keeper. Nick Ryan added our much deserved third again tapping home after another slick passing move and a cross from Gary.
Fritz tackled someone.
Without being our best display it was a job well done and importantly another clean sheet the product of a back four, and Tom who looked very assured and organised. There were good performances all round especially from the afore mentioned Fritz, Brendan, Ed Wheatley in midfield and Micky O' Farrell who as he gets fitter goes from strength to strength.
The game also saw the return of Mihir Patel who made a very assured appearance from the bench on his return from Cranfield.

Team - Kennard, Mooney, Castagnetti (Ryan), Mulholland, Quill, Wheatley,Townsend(Patel), White (Davis), M O'Farrell, Coulter, Cole. Subs not used. W Smith, Kalek

Saturday 01st November 2008 - Cranfield United 0 New Bradwell St Peter 1

This fixture saw Steve in charge of his last game and we managed to send him off with an important win in this tough local derby. Cranfield don't pose the threat that some more attacking teams do but they made their intentions very clear in getting men behind the ball and keeping our players from running at their defence one way or the other. More often it was the other.
The game started in difficult conditions but the pitch being in superb shape it gave both teams the chance to keep the ball on the floor and try to play football.
We started slowly and the opening exchanges were even with Cranfield having some early pressure that Tom and our back four managed to handle comfortably.
The first half was pretty even with the midfield cancelling each other and some late tackles on Lea Coulter going unpunished by the Referee.
Second half saw us slowly applying more pressure and our passing game started to get us in better attacking positions. The introduction of Greg Tite to the game gave us a bit more aggression and movement up front and with Micky O holding the ball up well we looked the more likely to break the deadlock. Lea broke past their right back to cross for Micky to head just wide. If 3 yds is just wide, but it was the sign of things to come.
Eventually a free-kick on our right whipped into the box by the left foot of Adam Castagnetti got a touch by Carl Simm into his own net giving us a narrow, hard fought but just deserved winner.
It was a patient and solid display, not at our best but showing we can grind out a win when we need to and this will be important if we are to maintain our top 6 position and hopefully build on that.
On behalf of all the players and coaching staff I wish Steve Orchard and Rob Fisher all the best at their new club and thank them for the work they put in at Bradwell that sets us up for a promising future.

Saturday 25th Ocotber 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 3 Stony Stratford 0

A third win on the bounce for Bradwell, keeping our unbeaten run going and putting us just a point behind the top six with a game in hand.

Stony were direct in style in the first half with a strong wind at their backs. Their young side were busy, playing 4-5-1 with young Walker joining front man and Captain Shaun Carr on the break.

It to be Micky O'Farrell's day with the big front man scoring his 5th of the season after great work through the middle from Wheatley and Coulter. The ball was played out to Lee White who put in a great cross for unmarked O'Farrell to head home in the 12th minute.

Much of the first half was bossed by Stony with New Bradwell working hard to compete for every ball without really getting going. Stony almost snatched a leveller when Walker's close range effort was brilliantly turned around the post by the impressive Tom Kennard in the home goal. Carr also saw his goal bound volley brilliantly blocked by Brendan Quill.

Stony had free kicks and corners which were well dealt with by the home defence without further problems and allowed us to be quick on the break with Dave Cole always a danger with his extra pace. Lee White saw a shot from just outside the box go narrowly over the bar.

The second half belonged to Bradwell. Now with the advantage of the wind we pushed the Stony defence back to the edge of their area for long periods of the half with the only surprise being that it took us so long to get a second goal.

Castagnetti (despite the baiting from the Stony contingent) came more into the game giving us that extra dimension to our attacks. Coulter began to find more space and Quill, Mooney and Stokes were excellent in defence with their covering and reading of the play. Wheatley and Kalek were breaking up the Stony midfield runs, seeing plenty of the ball and feeding the outstanding Micky O'Farrell up front.

We finally put the game to bed in the 79th minute when an enormous kick from Tom Kennard was misjudged by the visiting defence. Lee White saw the keeper advancing and neatly lobbed the ball over him to make it 2-0.

Four minutes later and the scoreline took a turn for the worse for Stony. Paul Stokes played the ball out of defence, Will Smith, on for the hard working Dave Cole was also involved as the ball was played through to both Lee White and Lea Coulter down Stony's left. It was White who took the ball into the penalty area before side stepping and smacking the ball into the bottom right hand corner to double his tally and take his total for the season to 13.

Watched by a crowd of 86, making us the second highest supported club in the division, we were good value for this win with several excellent individual performances from the players. Will Smith epitomised this with his running, tackling and distribution having come on as a second half substitute for Coley.

We played really well in the second half despite the blustery conditions. Micky O'Farrell was man of the match for his immaculate forward play, closely followed by Kennard, Stokes, Quill and White. To be totally fair though, everyone played well.

Line up; Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney (Captain), Adam Castagnetti, Paul Stokes, Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Mark Kalek (Nick Ryan), Lee White, Micky O'Farrell, Lea Coulter, Dave Cole (Will Smith). Subs not used; Mihir Patel, Craig Townsend.

Saturday 18th October 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 5 Arlesey Athletic 2

A good victory for New Bradwell, having played really well in parts. This win is dedicated to the memory of John Booden, a fantastic club man who will be missed by all at New Bradwell St. Peter Football Club.

New Bradwell started the brighter of the two teams and should have been a couple of goals up before Arlesey came into the game. The visitors got the ball forward quickly and troubled us with their long throws into the box.

Lee White opened the scoring on 11 minutes after Tite, Cole and Coulter had been involved in the build up play. The ball eventually fell to White on the left hand side of the goal and he placed the ball home for his 11th of the season.

Against the run of play the vistors equalised from another long throw in with Glenn Jones heading home in the 17th minute.

Bradwell were quickly back into their stride with Lea Coulter, Ed Wheatley and Greg Tite running the game. Our passing was sharp and our movement pulling the visiting defence around. It was no surprise when Lea Coulter scored yet again with another crisp drive from around 20 yards out. His 10th goal in 8 games, smashed into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Our first half performance deserved more goals but we were guilty of not working the keeper hard enough with one or two efforts hit straight at him. This trait continued in the second half with Cole, White, Townsend and Coulter all having efforts on goal.

Arlesey took advantage of our profligacy and came back into the game. They continued to push forward, with Bradwell having a quiet spell in the game where things weren't quite coming off for us.

At a comfortable 2-1 up, we were made to pay when Bill Sells capitalised on hesitancy at the back and he drove a volley on the turn, into the back of the net after 73 minutes.

We made a couple of changes very quickly to spark ourselves back into life and immediately started to look like the Bradwell of the first half. We pushed the vistors back into their own half but also had to be vigilant about Athletic's breakaways. Micky O'Farrell gave us more of a physical presence up front and Castagnetti a better balance on the left side of midfield with Mulholland behind him. Gary Davis also got straight into the game by delivering crosses from the right.

Again we missed a couple of easy chances by blasting at the keeper or hitting over the bar from good positions. We eventually got our reward though when Brendan Quill bundled the ball over the line in the 81st minute.

Two minutes later, Rob Mooney made a superb run down the right hand side, playing a one-two with O'Farrell, his shot was blocked but the ball ran out to the left hand side to Adam Castagnetti. His turn and cross was headed home by Mooney at the back post to make it 4-2.

In the last minute, the busy Greg Tite burst into the box and was upended. He got up to take the penalty himself to score his 8th of the season and New Bradwell's 50th of the season in all competitions.

Despite our quiet period in the second half, we were always dangerous and looked an accomplished side throughout the game. Some good individual performances, with Tite leading the way. We were a little ragged at times but went chasing goals and eventually got our rewards in the last ten mintes of the game when we suddenly switched back on.

Line up; Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney (Captain), Castagnetti, Stokes, Quill, Wheatley, Townsend (Mulholland), White (Davis), Tite, Coulter, Cole (O'Farrell). Subs not used; Nick Ryan, James Smith, Will Smith.

Tuesday 14th October 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 6 Winslow 3

What a cracking game of football. Two attacking and talented teams looking for a place in the third round of the Challenge Trophy with Chalfont St. Peter awaiting the winners.

We got off to a slow start due to having to make a team change just before kick off with Danny O'Farrell taken ill. He was replaced by Nobby Kalek at right back and it took a little time for us to adjust. (Our back four looked like something from Lord of the Rings with two hobbits, an Orc and an Ent lining up against a very lively Winslow forward line.) ;D

Winslow were first to strike when after five minutes Michael Ainger rose above the home defence to plant a crisp header past Tom Kennard. Winslow continued to trouble Bradwell with their direct style and midfield runners and it led to a formation change to resolve the problem. We managed to hold on and came back into the game.

Craig Townsend, making his full debut, moved in to the middle with Lea Coulter and Ed Wheatley and they immediately go us going. Dave Cole, Lee White and Micky O'Farrell played together up front and caused problems for Winslow with their pace and energy. Defensively, we became tighter as the outstanding Castagnetti, and Mark Kalek got to grips with their markers.

We were level in the 34th minute after great work involving Wheatley, Castagnetti and Lee White with the latter putting in an excellent cross for Lea Coulter to powerfully head home.

Four minutes later and we were ahead. Again, Lee White was involved and his cross was tapped home by Dave Cole for his first since returning to the club. This was a nicely worked goal with good inter-play between the Bradwell middle men and forwards.

If the first half was exciting, end to end, open attractive football then the second half must have been something special. Both teams played their part in a cracking second period which ebbed and flowed and at one point, either team could have won it.

Against the run of play, Winslow struck again to level matters. A stunning finish from Phil Martin in the 53rd minute. His cross shot smacked in off Kennards far post.

Bradwell dug in again and got their noses back in front when Lee White cracked in his 10th of the season. His volley from the left hand side of the area was fantastic. This followed good work from Wheatley, O'Farrell and Coulter.

Then a moment of madness from centre back John Mulholland when he spoke out of turn to the referee and was promptly sent off having been booked for the same thing in the first half. Both he and stalwart Brendan Quill had played well, having been kept fully occupied by the Winslow front line.

Bradwell adjusted again by sending on Paul Stokes but not before the referee had adjuged that Lee White was upended in the box, very harshly. White admitted afterwards that he fell but it mattered not as his penalty was well saved by Timberlake. This gave Winslow a lift and a few minutes later they were level again.

The Winslow distribution into the box had been outstanding throughout the game with Phil Martin sending in pinpoint corners and free kicks. Richard Shirley got on the end of a 77th minute corner to level the tie.

To their absolute credit, with ten men, Bradwell again came back at their visitors and within two minutes Adam Castagnetti cracked a 25-yarder passed Timberlake. A quite brilliant goal. He advanced over the half way line, making space for himself by going passed an opponent before belting his shot. His first goal of the season to cap and excellent personal performance.

Just a minute later, the keeper's poor clearance fell to Lea Coulter, who was standing in the centre circle. He controlled the ball before shooting from all of 45-yards. The presence of mind and confidence to try something like that was deserving of the goal that came. 5-3 and Coulter was beginning to run amok with the space that he was creating.

Winslow weren't quite finished though and they had a shot from Talbot pushed around the post by a mixture of Kennard and Kalek. A goal at that point would have made the last few minutes very nervy indeed. We also managed to claw another header from Ainger off the line.

In the 84th minute it was game over. Castagnetti's pinpoint free kick found Greg Tite, on for O'Farrell, and his deft headed flick looped over the keeper to complete the scoring. Who needs eleven men anyway?!

This was an excellent performance all round with every player performing at his best. Winslow played a full part and it's easy to see why they are 4th in the table currently. We worked very hard throughout the game to keep them at bay and scored some of the best goals seen at The Rec for many a long year.

Line up; Tom Kennard, Mark Kalek, Adam Castagnetti, John Mulholland, Brendan Quill (Captain), Ed Wheatley, Craig Townsend, Lee White (Paul Stokes), Micky O'Farrell (Greg Tite), Lea Coulter, Dave Cole (Will Smith). Subs not used; James Smith, Gary Davis, Nick Ryan.

Saturday 11th October 2008 - Hoddesdon 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

A keenly fought contest at Lowfields ended in stalemate despite the best efforts of both sets of players to win the game.

During the first half Hoddeson had a couple of good chances but found Tom Kennard in superb form. He saved twice from strikers when they were in excellent positions. Quill, Mooney and Stokes also threw their body in the way of shots in the first half. To be fair, Hoddesdon had the better of the half and yet we had very good chances to have settled the game. This despite not being at our best.

Micky O'Farrell came closest to opening the scoring when he hit a 20-yard dipping volley which the home keeper did really well to parry over the bar. Lee White also went close when he hit a shot across the face of the goal.

We opened the scoring when Lee White's corner was headed back across goal by Brendan Quill for O'Farrell to volley into the back of the net. The big man's fourth strike in as many games.

Unfortunately our lead only lasted a couple of minutes. We were hit hard for our lack of concentration and a stunning volley was smashed in from the edge of the area.

The referee prevented Lea Coulter from running into the area for a shot on goal when he blew his whistle without playing an advantage. To be fair, the referee has a good game and this was his only mistake. He could have sent off their player for a feigned headbutt but saw common sense and allowed both teams to play with eleven men on the pitch.

The second half saw a better performance from Bradwell and we changed our formation to 4-3-3 to attempt to win the game. Lea Coulter went very close after some fantastic interpassing between him and Dave Cole. Coulter missed from around 8-yards as he received the ball into his feet.

Brendan Quill rose highest at a corner but saw his header go over the bar. Lee White also shot into the side netting from the edge of the area.

Kennard was again in top form when he made a couple of good saves from just outside the area from the lively Hoddesdon forwards. Hoddesdon hit the top of the crossbar from another long range shot and also saw another effort go just over after a pile driver.

Bradwell almost stole all three points when Coulter played White through for a one on one with seconds remaining but the young striker couldn't finish and the keeper made a good save to keep the score all square.

A draw was a fair result with both sides having some good chances to have scored more goals. Hoddesdon were lively up front and certainly caused problems. Bradwell were not at their best but easily gained the point without having to get out of first gear. At times we cut them apart but lacked the finishing that could have won us the game. We also needed to work a bit harder in key areas.

Line up;
Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney (Capt.), Adam Castagnetti, Paul Stokes, Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Gary Davis (Craig Townsend), Lee White, Micky O'Farrell (Greg Tite), Lea Coulter, Dave Cole. Subs not used; Danny O'Farell, Will Smith and Nick Ryan.

Saturday 04th October 2008 - Madeville 0 New Bradwell St Peter 11

Bradwell ran riot against lower league opponents Mandeville at a blustery Ambleside Park. A strong wind blew across the pitch making conditions tricky for both sides.

Bradwell settled quickly and immediately pushed Aylesbury and District Premier Division Mandeville back. Lee White should have scored a couple of early goals, blazing over the bar from 6 yards after good work by Coulter and Smith. Coulter also went close when his point blank header was brilliantly saved by the home keeper.

It took a scrappy goal to get us under way. Wheatley poking the ball under the keeper in the 22nd minute. A soft goal to concede but seemingly the only way Bradwell were going to score at that time as we had had several efforts go wide.

An excellent free kick from Rob Mooney picked out Lea Coulter in the box in the 35th minute, the midfielder headed home to continue his excellent scoring run.

We continued to push throughout the rest of the half but couldn't add to our score, despite several good chances. Will Smith went closest when his shot struck the post with the keeper beaten.

The second half was a different story with a further nine goals being scored as Bradwell ran their hosts ragged. Mandeville had failed to trouble Shaun Abson in our goal and only had one corner to show for their efforts. No shots on goal and they got into our penalty area only twice in the whole match, such was our dominance.

Good passing on the edge of the box involving Coulter and Mulholland allowed White to turn and poke the ball past the keeper in the 49th minute. White then scored another two in the 56th and 57th minute after more excellent work from Mulholland, Kalek (on from Will Smith), Wheatley, Castagnetti and Coulter. Lee White taking his goal tally to 9 in seven games with this eight minute hat-trick.

Three more quick goals followed with Coulter (64), Wheatley (67) and Mulholland (68) adding to the tally. One or two of the goals were scuffed, others were crisply hit with our passing and movement creating the openings and we deserved some of the luck that we were given.

Gary Davis scored two minutes after replacing Dave Cole. He exchanged passes with Adam Castagnetti and Lee White before cutting in from the byline to score his second of the season in the 71st minute. Lea Coulter put the scoreline into double figures with a terrific finish from the edge of the box to complete his trio of goals. The ball nestling in the top left hand corner of the goal.

Paul Stokes scored the 11th and last goal with a crisp drive from 12 yards for his second of the season after more good work further forward. We had other efforts before the goal scoring was completed with Quill, Kennard and Castagnetti all having efforts on goal.

A stunning display albeit against a lower league side. You have to beat what's put in front of you and Bradwell did exactly that with a very professional and thoroughly dominant performance.

Line Up; Shaun Abson, Rob Mooney, Adam Castagnetti, Paul Stokes, Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Will Smith, Lee White, John Mulholland, Lea Coulter, Dave Cole. All subs used; Mark Kalek, Tom Kennard and Gary Davis.

Saturday 27th September 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 2 Bedford Town Res 0

New Bradwell dominated from start to finish and could have had a hatfull against the league leaders at The Rec.

We started brightly with White, O'Farrell and Coulter causing problems for the visiting defence from the kick off. We pushed the ball about and attacked well down both wings with Adam Castagnetti, Gary Davis and Dave Cole pushing Bedford back.

It was a free kick that opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Lee White's 25 yard curler deceiving the visiting keeper to go in off the post. His 5th of the season.

A second goal wouldn't come despite us having the majority of possession and creating some good openings. Micky O'Farrell and Lea Coulter created plenty of space in the Bedford area and we should have been at least two up at the break.

Deverill had the chance to put the visitors level when he was played through but Tom Kennard saved brilliantly to keep our lead intact. It was to be the only clear cut chance that Bedford had throughout the match.

A couple of bookings for players in the first half with Coulter receiving his 4th of the season and more importantly, Deverill for BTR as he was to receive a second yellow, harshly dished out in the second half.

Bradwell were reminded that we have been ahead on several occasions this season and haven't finished off the opposition. This time though, we were far superior to our visitors and one could have mistaken them for us as league leaders.

Five minutes after the restart we were two up. Lee White's free kick was put into the path of Lea Coulter by Adam Castagnetti and Ed Wheatley and Coulter scored his 4th in as many games to give us a two goal lead. A neat side footed goal past the keeper.

Bradwell had other chances to go further ahead with Lee White missing a couple of chances after great team work. Ed Wheatley's superb long range shot was pushed around the post for a corner too. White also hit a post after a cracking move which started from the back.

Bradwell played some excellent football throughout the game and fully deserved their win. Bedford losing for the first time this season, were made to look second best as Bradwell now have something to build on for the rest of the season.

Some outstanding performances from the Bradwell men and it would be inappropriate to name any individuals as they were all superb on the day. A great team performance from a very good squad of players who will go from strength to strength.

Line up; Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney (Captain)(Dan O'Farrell), Adam Castagnetti, Paul Stokes, Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Lea Coulter (Mark Kalek), Gary Davis (Will Smith), Dave Cole, Micky O'Farrell, Lee White. Subs not used; Shaun Abson, Tom Egelsfield.

Saturday 13th September 2008- Crawley Green 1 New Bradwell St Peter 1

New Bradwell dominated for long periods of the first half but couldn't find a way past the home keeper until Lea Coulter went clean through to lob and score his first since returning to the club.

At the other end Crawley almost stole an undeserved opener but Tom Kennard denied O'Dell with a very smart save at the feet of the prolific forward.

We had plenty of chances and created some good openings with Mulholland, Coulter and Wheatley all having efforts on goal. The ball spent a lot of time in the Crawley Green half and penalty area but they somehow managed to concede just the one first half goal. Bradwell played some lovely football and were good value for their half time lead.

The second half was much more even and both sides had chances to win the game. Coulter, Davis and Mulholland all had good chances to put the game beyond Crawley green, who had previously not dropped a point at home this season and who had despatched Premier Division side Welwyn Garden City in the Challenge Cup earlier in the week.

Unfortunately, we were made to pay for our missed chances when we switched off for the only time in the game. Peter O'Donnell beating Tom Egelsfield to the ball to score past the outstanding Tom Kennard. Kennard had previously kept out two other efforts from O'Dell and O'Donnell when they looked certain to net.

On a hot day, we needed to work a little harder for each other at times and our finishing and defending in the second half lost us the two extra points. That said, we are still building, had several players missing and have to accept that Crawley are a decent side. However, we should have won this game at a canter.

Line up;
Tom Kennard, Rob Mooney, Capt., Paul Stokes (Tom Egelsfield), Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Will Smith, Gary Davis, Lea Coulter, John Mulholland, Nick Ryan (Mike Downard), Dan O'Farrell. Sub not used; Andy Allison, Shaun Abson.

Tuesday 6th Spetember 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 6 Bedford FC 2

Man of the match Gary Davis was too hot to handle last night as Bradwell ran riot against Bedford in the Challenge Trophy at The Rec.

We pushed Beford back for the first 15 minutes and should have been two or three up. Crosses rained in from Davis and Will Smith from both sides and we were unlucky not to have finished things early on.

Bedford then came into the game a little more and took a surprise lead. A header out of defence fell to Shaheen Miah who finished really well in the 25th minute.

Bradwell were on level terms with a cracking goal from Will Smith. He let fly with a 25 yarder after 33 minutes. The goal came from nothing and seemed to put Bradwell back into gear.

Four minutes later John Mulholland put Dan O'Farrell through on the right hand side of the area and the youngster raced on before drilling a low shot in off the far post.

We almost went further ahead when Micky O'Farells shot across the face of goal, was spilled by the keeper but before Mulholland could poke the ball home a defender put the ball out for a corner.

With minutes left before the half time whistle, Shaheen Miah levelled things when his free kick evaded Tom Kennard from distance. Despite us having the majority of possession and pretty much all of the goal scoring chances, Bedford held us in the first half.

The second half was a much different story as we found gaps, moved and passed well to open up the Bedford defence time and time again. We went ahead again in the 54th minute with a peach of a goal. Dan O'Farrell played in Gary Davis down the right, his pinpoint cross was powerfully headed home by new boy Nick Ryan.

Bradwell had further chances to finish the game with Micky OFarrell and John Mulholland having shots. Brendan Quill also forced the visiting keeper into pulling off a brilliant point blank save.

Jason Layne was his usual dangerous self and he was unlucky to see his pull back from the byline evade the onrushing forwards. The tricky Miah also watched as his free kick split a hole in the Bradwell defence only for the ball to run safely through for a goal kick.

The game was made safe in the 82nd minute when John Mulholland's 20 yard shot rifled past the keeper after good build up work involving Tom Egelsfield.

Having changed our formation to 4-4-2 we were using our wide men to good effect and Ed Wheatley sent Gary Davis down the right hand side. His cross was deflected into the net by a defender with Mulholland ready to pounce. The goal was awarded to Davis by the referee as the defender had nowhere to go with the ball and big Fritz was waiting for the tap in. 5-2.

The final goal was also a beauty. Mulholland and Micky O'Farrell combined to send the latter through to place his shot home from the edge of the box, again after good build up work involving two or three players.

The scoreline doesn't flatter Bradwell. 11 goals have been scored in the last two games. We looked dangerous every time we went forward and go safely through to play either Aylesbury Vale or Winslow United, at home, in the next round.

Line up; Tom Kennard, Andy Allison (Tom Egelsfield), Rob Mooney (Capt.) (Paul Stokes), Brendan Quill, Will Smith, Gary Davis, Nick Ryan, Mark Kalek (Ed Wheatley), Dan O'Farrell, John Mulholland, Micky O'Farrell. Sub not used; Shaun Abson.

Saturday 06th September 2008 - Newbradwell St Peter 5 Sport London E Benfica 2

A comfortable victory in the end for the home side despite losing a two goal lead.

Bradwell started brightly and took the game to the visitors with Smith, Tite and Davis looking busy. We took the lead in the 7th minute after a sweet move. Greg Tite's fantastic centre was headed back into the path of Mark "Nobby" Kalek by Will Smith. Kalek smashed home from 6 yards with a right foot volley.

We doubled our lead after 14 when Benfica took one chance too many at the back and Greg Tite stole the ball off the keeper to score his 6th of the season.

We then lost Titey to injury when the little striker turned his right ankle after 25 minutes. Micky O'Farrell went on his place. The striker signed for the club this week having enjoyed a spell at UCL Premier Division side Potton last season. Bradwell almost scored again when Mark Kalek's long range drive hit the top of the cross bar with the keeper beaten.

We should have wrapped up the game when Will Smith chose to shoot instead of cross to the unmarked Ed Wheatley. This was to prove costly as the visiting side pulled a goal back a few minutes later. Rob Mooney had already made a goal-line clearance to conserve Bradwell's two goal lead.

It took us a while to settle after losing the busy style of Greg Tite and this allowed Benfica back into the game. A mistake allowed Barroso to shoot home after the ball fell nicely for him following a rebound in the Bradwell area. A few minutes later the visitors almost stole a leveller when Kalek's foul led to a free kick. Tom Kennard was equal to the kick though and pulled off a great save. The corner came to nothing and the half time whistle went with Bradwell's lead intact.

A change of formation for the second half allowed Bradwell to play with a second striker and eventually this was to undo the visitors. That said, we were not at our best and had to scrap and battle for every ball.

Ed Wheatley was replaced by new man Dan O'Farrell after he had tweaked a knee. O'Farrell, younger brother of Micky, had an immediate impact, winning the ball in the centre of midfield.

Bradwell had chances to sew up the game when Mulholland's effort was somehow cleared off the line by Da Silva when he seemed certain to score. Again, this miss was to prove costly as Conceicao levelled with an overhead kick which cleared the defenders standing on the goal-line.

Bradwell came straight back at Benfica and had further chances. Mulholland was put through by Micky O'Farrell only to see his lob clear the keeper and rebound off the post to safety. The same combination got Bradwell back ahead though when in the 77th minute O'Farrell was played through by Mulholland only to be fouled by the keeper. O'Farrell put the penalty low to the keepers right to give the home side a deserved 3-2 lead.

Benfica enjoyed a good amount of possession and almost snatched another equaliser when Barroso saw a header brilliantly clawed off the line by Tom Kennard. Man of the match Rob Mooney completed the clearance.

O'Farrell put the game beyond Benfica in the 87th minute when he shot home from 12 yards having been put through again by Mulholland. A neat finish. O'Farrell returned the favour as the same two exchanged passes just a minute later. This gave the score a true reflection with Mulholland sliding home at the far post.

Without hitting top gear, Bradwell looked sharp going forward. With new players settling in the future looks good for Peters. With better finishing and decision making in front of goal the score could have been a lot worse for the visitors. We looked fairly solid at the back with Mooney, Kennard and Quill in fine form. The new players settled in quickly, with others also finding their feet in this new look Bradwell side.

Line up;
Tom Kennard, Andy Allison, John Mulholland, Rob Mooney (Capt.), Brendan Quill, Ed Wheatley, Mark Kalek, Nick Ryan, Will Smith, Gary Davis, Greg Tite. Subs used; Micky O'Farrell, Dan O'Farrell and Jason Robinson. Not used; Tom Egelsfield

Saturday 30th August 2008 - London Colney 4 New Bradwell St Peter 1

We were our own worst enemy against an ordinary Colney side with poor passing and poor finishing putting paid to our two game unbeaten run.

London Colney took the lead after a clear offside decision went against us. Paul Danslow slotting past Shaun Abson in the 16th minute to give Colney the start that an under-confident team would have wanted. We lost Gary Davis to an ankle injury after 18 minutes, sending on Dean Robb in his place.

Kicking uphill first half and against the wind, we felt that the first half would be the tougher of the two. We trailed by the single goal at half time despite having the better of the chances. Unfortunately we missed two one on ones, saw a free header go wide and lost two or three good openings through sloppy passing when a simple lay off would have helped us.

The second half saw us concede a Mitchell goal in the 59th minute. Again, we lost the ball in midfield and a simple through ball saw the youngster race through to score.

We attempted to get ourselves back in to the game but poor passing time and time again let us down. Kalek and Quill were booked for tackles, more due to frustration than anything else.

Paul Stokes headed his first of the season on 74 minutes after a fine cross in to the box by Wheatley. We hoped that this would get us going again and had another couple of chances to grab an equaliser but the ball wouldn't fall for us. A long range effort by Nick Ryan was safely held and despite us playing better for a ten minute spell we were hit on the break for two more goals to round off a very bad day at the office. Goals from Davey and Humbert in the 82nd and 89th minutes gave London Colney a flattering scoreline.

We didn't play well at all. Back to the drawing board for New Bradwell. Injuries to Davis and Mooney didn't help but too many of our players were off form at the same time.

Line up;
Abson, Allison (Wilson), Mooney, Capt. (W. Smith), Stokes, Quill, Wheatley, Castagnetti, Kalek, Tite, Ryan, Davis (Robb). Kennard, not used.

Tuesday 26th August 2008 - New Bradwell St Peter 3 Brache Sparta 0

Three top class finishes from hatrick hero Greg Tite was too much for a lively Brache side at The Rec. Watched by a good crowd, the game was played at a good pace from the start.

Bradwell were quick top get into gear and had early chances with a Lee White effort after a couple of minutes. Brache moved the ball well and were full of skill and hard work.

Bradwell used the space in the corners well and stretched Brache's three man back line and it was this movement which led to our first goal. Adam Castagnetti, Ed Wheatley and Nick Ryan combined well to release Lee White down the left hand side. His pinpoint cross was side-footed home on the volley by Tite after 7 minutes. Move of the season so far. A great bit of build up work, a lovely cross and a very smart finish from the diminutive (that means small!!) striker.

Brache came straight back at Bradwell and caused us problems with their movement and passing. They pressed the self destruct button after half an hour though when Jim Benton appeared to elbow Mark Kalek off the ball. The incident was seen by the referee and Benton was sent off after a further offence of spitting.

The sending off didn't appear to bother Brache too much though and they pegged Bradwell back for long periods. They didn't force Shaun Abson into making any saves in the first half but were dangerous nontheless and had our defence at full stretch on several occasions.

At the other end Bradwell continued to cause problems. Greg Tite was put through by Will Smith for a one on one with the keeper but saw the stopper dive at his feet to dispossess him. At this time Bradwell had changed their formation to suit Brache and started to get back into the game. Our passing was a bit rushed at times though.

The second half was more of the same but this time Abson had more work to do. He pulled off a brilliant save to deny Franklin Fevrier an equaliser from a header with the follow up blazed over the bar. Jason Thomas also came close when his left foot drive was tipped over the bar a while later. Andzej Juraszck also had an effort go wide. Brache had a few corners and free kicks awarded in dangerous areas but the home defence held firm and hit the visitors on the break.

Bradwell had chances of their own with Lee White blasting just over from the edge of the box after good work from Tite and Wheatley. Andy Allison beat a host of defenders before playing a one-two with Wheatley. Allison just failed to connect properly with the centre with the goal at his mercy. More good football in this end to end match.

In the 86th minute a break from defence saw Castagnetti feed the ball through to both Lee White and Greg Tite, neither were offside. Tite took the ball on and chipped Nigel Blower to grab his second of the game and 4th of the season.

Just a few seconds later Gary Davis, on for Will Smith, sent in an excellent low centre for Greg Tite to finish with his left foot at the near post. Another sweeping move from Bradwell, rough justice for Brache who had worked tirelessly from the start.

This was a very good game of football, played in the right spirit, despite the sending off. Brache were sharp and played good football wherever possible. Bradwell were quick on the break and exploited gaps in the visitors defence. We also played some good football and passed well in the second half. We were defensively sound and looked very sharp going forward, particularly down the left with Adam Castagnetti's passing. Both sides gave their all and on the night, Bradwell's finishing proved to be the winner.

Bradwell battled hard throughout, despite not being at our best in the first half. Kalek, Ryan and Wheatley put in a good shift and were well supported by Smith and Castagnetti on both sides. Tite and White were unlucky to be caught offside but attempted to play off the last man wherever possible and both had good chances to score more goals. Stokes and Quill continue perform admirably at the heart of the defence with new signing Andy Allison also settling in well. A pleasing result.

Line up; 1) Abson 2) Allison 3) Castagnetti 4) Stokes 5) Quill (Capt.) 6 )Wheatley 7) Ryan 8) Tite 9) White 10) Kalek 11) W. Smith. Subs used Davis and Robb; Not used; Hatcher, Egelsfield, Kennard, Downard.

Saturday 23rd August 2008 - Royston Town 1  New Bradwell St Peter 1

A much deserved last gasp equaliser from Lee White gave Bradwell a point at title favourites Royston after the visitors had been on the back foot for much of the game.

Bradwell opened brightly and could have been a couple of goals up before Royston really got going. Lee White was played through on goal after 5 mintutes, he lobbed the keeper from around 25 yards but saw his effort go wide. Brendan Quill then saw a header go wide from a set piece.

A few minutes later White tested the keeper from range with a rocket shot which the home keeper did well to hold.

Royston came back at Bradwell and almost forced an equaliser when good play from Hammond left Robins in the clear. Shaun Abson pulled off a stunning save to deny the youngster an opening goal. The same player saw his free kick pushed around the post by Abson after the referee had given hand ball offence right on the edge of the box.

The rest of the half belonged mainly to the home side although chances were few and far between. One unsavory moment just before half time occurred when Craig Hammond appeared to back heel Andy Allison in the head when the midfielder was on the floor. A row at half time saw the forward taken off.

The second half mirrored the first with Royston having the better of the possession but Bradwell battling very hard with our keeper and defenders in outstanding form. Wheatley and Kalek broke up play well and were assisted with hard work from Allison and Smith. Tite and White had to feed off the scraps in order to keep the home defenders busy.

Bradwell did have a couple of good openings and saw shots from Davis and Wheatley blocked by defenders. Davis also had a couple of crosses well defended when any slip would have seen Lee White in the clear.

The opening goal came from a cross down the Bradwell left. A free kick had been cleared but a quickly taken cross from the clearance found Alan Reid clear and he made no mistake with his header at the far post.

Royston went close again with the ball flashing across the box after Robins had cut inside the box. The same player went down under a challenge a short while later but the referee wasn't interested in awarding a penalty.

Then, with the game drawing to a close, came the sucker punch. With big centre half Brendan Quill thrown forward for the last few minutes of the game, he and Ed Wheatley won the ball from the home defence. Wheatley advanced towards the edge of the box before unselfishly slipping the ball through the White. The young striker drew the keeper before slipping the ball under him, the ball seemed to take an age to go over the line but it did and it gave New Bradwell some reward for the hard work throughout the game.

A terrific team performance with a scratch side due to holidays and players unavailable. We worked our socks off and employed a never say die attitude. Several outstanding individual performances ensured a well earned point at a tough venue.

Line up; 1) Abson 2) Mooney, Captain 3) Egelsfield 4) Stokes 5) Quill 6) Wheatley 7) W. Smith 8) Tite 9) White 10) Kalek 11) Allison. Subs used; Green and Davis. Not used; Hatcher and Kennard.

Saturday 16th August 2008 - Kings Langley 2 New Bradwell St Peter 1

A very disappointing second half performance from New Bradwell left us empty handed at Division One necomers Kings Langley, despite us not having faced a single shot on target throughout the game.

Greg Tite gave us the lead after 5 minutes following a free kick from Lee White which the home keeper failed to hold. Brendan Quill kept the ball alive in the six yard box and Tite headed home after the ball had rebounded off the cross bar.

Bradwell then took the game to the home side and would have been further ahead had it not been for the keeper. He kept out a one on one from Dave Cole before pulling of a wonder save from a White thunderbolt from just outside the box. At this stage we were bossing the game with Smith, Robb and Wheatley running the midfield. Dave Cole was causing problems with his pace.

Langley got back into the game just before half time after we had to adjust to the heavy loss of Ben Chouhan. The youngster went down on his shoulder and now faces an operation to have it pinned. A few minutes later and a heavy challenge on James Smith went unpunished. The influential midfielder had to remain off the field at half time.

Much of the second half belonged to the home side. We had to change the formation of the team due to the injuries to Smith and Chouhan. Despite facing heavy pressure, we didn't have a single save to make and it was to be mistakes that would cost us. The second of which came in the last minute of normal time after we had defended stoutly. Quill, Stokes and Castagnetti didn't deserve to be on the losing side and we have to learn to battle and scrap for everything in future.

Our first half performance was very good but it was made clear that you win nothing at half time depsite our good play and 1-0 lead.

Line up; 1)Abson 2) Chouhan 3) Castagnetti 4) Stokes 5) Quill 6) Wheatley (Capt.) 7) Cole 8) Tite
9) White 10) J. Smith 11) Robb
Subs;  Used Wilson, Davis and W. Smith.  Not used; Johnstone.
