New Bradwell St. James Football Club was founded in the 1880's, its headquarters being at the Forresters Arms. The "Jimmies"won the North Bucks League for five consecutive seasons up to 1901. Also in 1901 they brought the Berks and Bucks Junior Cup to the north of the county for the first time. The following year they made history by reaching the final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.
The "Peters" were first named Stantonbury St. James, formed by members of the St. James Church on the Newport Road. Soon after, they were renamed Stantonbury St. Peter after the church at Stanton Low. However, up to 1926 their supporters always referred to them as the Jimmies. Their ground was on Red Bridge complete with dressing rooms and a stand.
After the Second World War the Club moved from the Red Bridge field to the Mutual Meadow on the Newport Road. At the same time it was asked to vacate its H.Q of 50 years, the Forresters Arms and welcomed to the Railway Tavern by Mr. Foddy and then the next landlord, Mr Tom Inwood, until the pub closed down. In 1946/47 they changed their name again when New Bradwell Corinthians Football Club found themselves in difficulties and merged with the Peters, thus the change from Stantonbury to New Bradwell St. Peter. Still later, came another change of ground, from the Mutual Meadow to the Bradwell Road Recreation Ground, using the New Inn for training, then known as The Progressive Club. At this time the Football Club invited the Cricket Club to join them in an effort to build a Sports Pavilion on the Bradwell Road Recreation ground. After lengthy discussions with the local council, the venture came to fruition and the New Bradwell Sports Club was officially opened by Councilor Dr. Love.
People make clubs -Trainers like George O'Dell, Ted Ireson and Tommy Goodger. Behind them were stalwarts like P. Gaskin, player turned secretary, Mrs Scragg, who did the laundering and for years sold "penny on the ball"tickets for fund raising, the Dutton family, George Cook. Chairman, followed by Harry Olney and Jim Penman and Presidents H. Faithfull and G. Derricut. A supporters club was formed, leaving Reg Pateman Secretary of the Football Club and Lionel Turvey Secretary of the Supporters Club, which held weekly functions and an annual fete.
The team won the Leighton and District Challenge Cup in the 1949/50 season and the following year the Minor team won the Berks and Bucks Minor Cup. In the 1969/70 season the reserves won the North Bucks League Division Three title and the Division three Shield, a satisfying double and the current Chairman was a member of the team. The Club captured the services of ex-professional Brian Gibbs as team manager in 1975, and under his guidance won the South Midlands League Division One title in 1976/77, the reserve team having similar success. The first team again won the League under the guidance of Malc Burridge in 1983/84 and the reserves again won their League in 1988/89. In the early eighties the "Peters" were granted senior status.
The predominant figure for over thirty years has been John Booden. He has worked at the club in every capacity and is the current Club President. A Vice-Presidents Club was established by John and this was the driving force behind the funding of the subsequent installation of floodlights during 1998. Their installation and in winning the Spartan South Midlands Senior Division Championship in the 1997/98 season under player/manager Simon Spooner, ensured the Peters promotion. The Peters would now play in the newly formed Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.
The season 1999/00 under the management of Andy Milne and Paul Bevis, the Peters won the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy beating local rivals Milton Keynes City in the final after extra time and penalties. Season 2000/01, the reserves won Reserve Division Three, losing only one game throughout the whole season.
The 2002/2003 season was our centenary and there were functions held throughout the season to celebrate this with a number of old players and committee being invited.
Under the guidance of Adie Haynes, the reserves finished runners-up in Division two in 2004/05 and were promoted to the Reserve First Division. The following season they finished in third place, a creditable performance in a very tough division. The first team finished in 4th place in Division One in the 2004-05 and 2006-07 seasons before Steve Orchard came on board as Manager. This is Steve's third season at the club as he looks to improve on last years 6th position.
